Elspeth_hensler_smWomen Lawyers of Western Australia (Inc.) is a dynamic and influential organisation which represents and promotes the interests of women lawyers in Western Australia and looks after the interests of women in the community.

Since its formation in 1982, WLWA has successfully implemented a number of changes in the legal profession which have benefited women lawyers and provided better access to the higher positions in the law. WLWA has also researched and commented on numerous issues affecting women in the community.

WLWA provides excellent opportunities for its members to network and expand their contacts and interests by holding a number of social functions each year as well as presenting regular seminars on a range of interesting and educational topics.

This website also contains a directory of members showing their areas of practice, qualifications and expertise in order to promote opportunities for engagement of its members.

Invitation to the 2012 Honours Dinner

Attached is an invitation to the 2012 Honours Dinner which will be held at the University Club on Friday, 16 March 2012.

This year, we will honour the appointments of Magistrate Atkins, Magistrate Sutherland, Magistrate Walter and Magistrate Webb and the achievements of Her Honour Judy Eckert and Her Honour Mary Ann Yeats.

We will also announce the Women Lawyers of the Year and the awarding of the inaugural Aboriginal Women's Legal Education Trust scholarship.

We hope that yuo can join us on what is always a most enjoyable night of celebration.

 

CPD Seminar - Personal Brand & Image Workshop

With the kind assistance of the College of Law, we will present our first CPD seminar for the year between 4 and 6pm on 28 February 2012. The flyer is attached. Registrations close 21 February 2012.

The seminar, a workshop on Personal Brand & Image, will be presented by Natasha di Ciano, Managing Director EGAMI STYLE. Egami Style is an internationally accredited image specialist with a focus on professional image, confidence and career progression. Egami Style takes care of every aspect of image projection from strategy to implementation offering excellence in image creation and delivery.

This workshop has been developed for our members who have been admitted for 5 years or less. While we invite other members to register to attend, as places are limited, we will give preference to members admitted less than 5 years. There will be an opportunity at the Workshop for members to register their interest in attending further brand and image workshops.

Members attending this seminar can accrue 1 point in competency area 1 (legal skills and practice).

 

AWL 4th national conference - August 2012, Canberra

Attached is a brochure setting out the preliminary details of the AWL 2012 Conference. This will be AWL's 4th national conference and will be held in Canberra between 10 and 12 August 2012. The theme of the conference is "Women Lawyers in a Public World".

The welcome reception will be held Friday evening, 10 August 2012 with the programme running all day Saturday 11 and the morning of Sunday 12 August.  The gala dinner will be Saturday evening.  The timetable for the conference is still being developed but the anticipated speakers include Justice Bell (to give a short speech on the theme of the conference) and  Chief Justice French (to open the conference).
